  • Adventuring out west with a Four Wheel Camper Hawk Flatbed Camper

Adventuring out west with a Four Wheel Camper Hawk Flatbed Camper

The nation’s first national park, Yellowstone, remains an awe-inspiring place with geysers, mud pots, and wildlife. However, a unique attraction presented itself in the parking lot outside Mammoth, Wyoming: the Four Wheel Campers (FWC) Hawk Flatbed Camper. Tourists gawked and took pictures of our adventure vehicle/camper. The Hawk Flatbed Camper, mounted to a Norweld aluminum tray, and sitting on a 2021 Ram 3500 made this the ultimate Yellowstone attraction. Ha! It creates the ultimate adventure vehicle. “Hello.” “What’s this?” A tourist asked. “It’s a Four Wheel Camper.” I replied. “A what?” Another tourist remarked. Much of the exchanges followed that pattern as my family and I adventured for a few weeks in the states of Wyoming and Montana. And lucky Read More…

  • Four Wheel Flatbed Hawk Camper

    Four Wheel Flatbed Hawk Camper

I’ve spent the last 4 years driving a JKU, so when I jumped in behind the wheel of the Ram 3500/FWC Flatbed Hawk Camper combo, my first impression was that it was a BEAST. I’m not going to lie, I was a little intimidated by the thought of driving it on the southern Californian freeways, let alone off-road. However, once behind the wheel, it didn’t take more than a few miles to relax and realize that freeway driving was pretty easy and the Cummins 6.7L engine allowed the rig to fly whenever I needed to put my foot down. The plan was to spend a week in the rig and make my way from San Diego to the Lost Sierra Read More…

Project M Camper Factory Install on 1983 Chevy K10 Long Bed Squarebody (Savage Camper)

If you’ve followed Savage Camper, it’s no secret I’m a fan of Four Wheel Campers. Over the last few years, I’ve attended some of their events for blogging/vlogging. I’ve gotten to know some FWC owners, and have worked collaboratively with FWC in other ways. The employees at FWC are a fantastic group of skilled, nice people that are really down to earth. The #BigRedK10 build, using a 1983 Chevy K10 6.2 diesel long bed as the platform, received FWC sponsorship as a unique idea to promote their Project M camper that heralds back to nostalgic roots via the Savage Camper brand. I’m also a fan because Four Wheel Campers has been building them for 50 years! Not only do they have Read More…

  • A Trip to Remember – 6 Weeks in a Four Wheel Camper Flatbed Hawk – Truck Camper Adventure

A Trip to Remember – 6 Weeks in a Four Wheel Camper Flatbed Hawk – Truck Camper Adventure

Six weeks of dirt, dust and dog food has been cleaned from our camper. We brought home enough of the Southwest, Midwest and Utah to amend a garden. It was a very successful and memorable trip. We saw some incredible sights and were able to connect with family and friends, while comfortably traveling in our new Four Wheel Camper Hawk Flatbed. We even learned a few things about our camper that made us very pleased with our decision to build out a flatbed. But first, let’s wind the clock back. For six years, my wife Gretchen and I enjoyed our beloved Toyota Tacoma equipped with a Four Wheel Camper Fleet. It was nimble and reliable and provided cooking and sleeping comfort Read More…

  • Truck Camper or Off-Road Van? An Adventure Chef’s Top Pick – The Wayward Home

Truck Camper or Off-Road Van? An Adventure Chef’s Top Pick – The Wayward Home

Adam Glick is no stranger to the nomadic lifestyle. As a professional chef aboard yachts ranging from 90 to 225 feet, he always had a campervan at the ready in the marina parking lot. In the beginning, back in 2008, Adam lived in a beat-up old van with no windows. He calls himself one of the original “van lifers”, long before it was something cool to show off on Instagram.  “This all started because when I wasn’t working on a boat I found myself homeless and got a van out of necessity,” he said. “I would finish a job and all my possessions were in storage. I didn’t keep a house.” When Adam started making a little more income, he Read More…

Ice Fishing With A Truck Camper – Truck Camper Magazine

In the deep cold of Minnesota winter, Ken Barry takes his Four Wheel Camper to frozen lakes and goes ice fishing.  How he stays warm and comfortable is an important lesson for anyone interested in extreme winter camping. As snowbirds who drive south the moment we smell cold, the mere idea of driving onto a frozen lake to ice fish sends chills through us big enough to set off distant seismographs. Of course, we weren’t always so thin-skinned.  Just a few years ago we lived in Pennsylvania, and we were quite accustomed to the annual wintery onslaught.  What’s that weatherman?  Snowmageddon?  Snowpocalypse?  Snow-my-goodness?  Snow-what!  Bring it. The lesson here is simple.  Be very careful with snowbirding.  Once you fly south Read More…

The Ultimate Overland Vehicle – A Power Wagon Owner’s Perspective – The Adventure Portal

2018 Power Wagon & Four Wheel Camper – Hawk Model Bob Wohlers, Owner/Instructor Off-Road Safety Academy and Author of Off-Road & Overland Adventure Infobooks Why did you choose your rig platform and how long have you had it? I purchased both my Ram Power Wagon and Four Wheel Camper (FWC) in early 2018 brand new (I don’t buy used vehicles anymore). The primary reason I selected this vehicle and camper combo would be a surprise to most, and my reason is not common among those that purchase such a setup. I bought this vehicle combo because I personally did not own a 4WD vehicle in this category – long wheelbase 3/4 ton 4WD truck with an enclosed and comfortable habitation camper. I know what you are thinking, “Say Read More…

The Rig that is always ready – The Adventure Portal

I grew up dreaming of dusty Baja roads, endless uncrowded beaches, fish tacos, hand pressed tortillas, and night skies filled with fireworks. I think I watched a few too many surf movies in the 80’s and 90’s but self contained traveling has always been something that has intrigued me. Fast forward 30 years and I find myself owning the perfect rig that can accomplish everything I dreamed of and more. Allow me to introduce the Four Wheel Camper, Pop-up Camper, known as the Project M. A quick back story, Kelly is my beautiful wife, and we’ve been married for over 30 years. I was fortunate enough to marry my high school sweetheart. We now have six children, and three grandchildren. When Read More…

What It’s Like Overlanding Baja In A Truck Camper (The Wayward Home)

You may have seen him on the big screen acting opposite Tom Cruise in War of the Worlds, or on television on the show Shameless. But in his off-time, Justin Chatwin prefers camping and dirt biking to the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles. Chatwin did extensive camping in a pickup truck camper shell before deciding he wanted something a little more comfortable for his backroads adventures. “I wanted a fridge. I got tired of getting ice every day or two. I wanted water, a comfier bed,” said Chatwin. “So, on day I was scrolling Instagram and saw Bound for Nowhere’s truck camper by Four Wheel Campers, and it looked so cool, I just become obsessed.” He couldn’t stop looking at truck campers online and on the road, so decided Read More…

Review of the Four Wheel Camper Project M Truck Topper (Truck Camper Adventure)

As a former Marine I take a lot of pride in getting by with the bare necessities. We’re known for a lot of things in the Marine Corps, but having an abundance of gear is not one of them. So when I began to consider the options for an overland setup for my 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road, I was able to talk myself out of just about every option on the market. I had a ground tent and a nice camp mattress, what else did I need? Yet my mind wandered… I couldn’t help myself. I spent more time than I’d care to admit on Instagram mindlessly swiping through images of low profile camper setups from GoFast Campers, AT Read More…
